Skunara, eldest sister of King Madyes, expanded Scythian hegemony during the Assyrian civil war by brutally conquering the Medes. She slew the Median king Phraortes in battle, and so soundly defeated all foes that her victories began what is now called “Scythian rule over Asia.” Favored by Assyrian King Ashurbanipal, she led his armies against the Cimmerians, where she fell in battle seeking to reach King Tugdammi so as to slay him with her own hand.
