Darya Saltykova, known as Saltchikha, was an 18th-century Russian noblewoman infamous for her sadistic treatment and murder of hundreds of her serfs. Her cruel reign over her estates ended with a trial that shocked the nation, leading to her imprisonment and, indirectly, spotlighting the rampant abuse of serfs in Russian society.
